SAM has many time saving features, which allow the administrator of a community group to keep complex trading records and produce accurate statements, trading directories and numerous useful management reports at the click of a button.

SAM utilises the powerful features of Microsoft Access allowing easy integration with spreadsheets, Word and other products in the Microsoft Office suite. However it is not necessary to have in depth knowledge of Access to operate it effectively. (My 13-year-old daughter has safely operated the system.)

The system ensures exchange trading integrity by creating paired debits and credits, minimising data input and ensuring that the system is always in balance. This also ensures that you are on the right side of the law! Barter and exchange is completely legal. Creating credit and debt out of thin air is a privilege only the global banks have. Remember too that if your combined accounts show anything other than a zero balance, you may have to pay tax for any resulting profit you have made.

SAM can be easily configured for a single trading group or for many. Service charges can be easily applied as a fixed fee, transaction volume or both. The software is highly intuitive and easy to use and makes many complicated and time consuming tasks easy.

SAM has been designed and programmed by LETS practitioners as a result of extensive fieldwork. Since 1987 it has evolved to meet the needs of one of the UK’s most successful LETS Groups. www.newmoraylets.org.uk It has now been fully beta-trailed with other Scottish Groups. Many customised options are now included allowing the software to be configured to serve different system needs.

The system is easy to install and compatible with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP. It also requires Microsoft Office Professional ’97 or above.
